The Romantic Road

The 460-kilometer-long road is Germany’s oldest and most famous vacation route. It runs from Würzburg in the Franconian wine region through the breathtaking Alpine landscape to Füssen in the Ostallgäu—a route featuring truly special cultural and scenic highlights. Discover romantic towns like Rothenburg ob der Tauber, enchanting landscapes such as the Tauber Valley, and outstanding UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Wieskirche and King Ludwig’s fairytale castles. Numerous historic open-air festivals, local celebrations, and regional and seasonal culinary offerings and specialties enrich the travel experience.

German Alpine Route

Majestic mountain scenery, crystal-clear lakes, charming alpine pastures, famous castles, and delightful Bavarian traditions accompany you on this dreamlike panoramic route from Lindau on Lake Constance to Schönau on Lake Königssee. Anyone traveling along the winding, 484-kilometer-long “most beautiful road in the Bavarian Alps” will experience a true postcard idyll. The magnificent landscapes invite you to go hiking, the beautiful lakes are perfect for swimming, and in rustic inns and beer gardens you can enjoy hearty, traditional dishes and Bavaria’s characteristic warm hospitality. In addition, ancient monasteries and churches, castles, and palaces along the route offer a glimpse into a magnificent cultural heritage.

German Wine Route

Germany’s oldest wine route stretches approximately 85 km through the Palatinate wine region, from the German Wine Gate on the French border to the town of Bockenheim. The Palatinate is the world’s largest Riesling-growing region; its wines are characterized by fresh acidity, delicate fruit aromas, and their distinctive minerality. Stop in small wine-growing villages and enjoy fine wines at the numerous wine bars. The delicious Palatinate cuisine adds to the culinary experience. A special highlight along the route is the Dürkheim Wine Barrel. With a capacity of 1.7 million liters and room for about 650 people, it is the largest barrel in the world and now serves as a wine bar.

German Half-Timbered Houses Route

No other country in the world has as many half-timbered buildings as Germany. The route encompasses over 100 historic towns, stretching from the Elbe River in the north to Lake Constance in the south. It is divided into several sections, and each region features its own distinctive half-timbered style. On your journey, discover not only the fascinating art of half-timbered architecture but also other cultural landmarks and idyllic landscapes. In addition, there are numerous folk festivals, local markets, and special events held throughout the year that keep the regional character and historical past of each town alive.
